What to expect from professional teeth whitening

We use Zoom! whitening because we have found the technology to provide the best whitening results for our patients. The process can take from 30 minutes to an hour and the whitening gel is professionally applied a few times during your visit. The gel is is kept away from your gums and saliva which helps to keep the whitening process even and effective.

Your teeth can whiten up to 8 shades in a single visit and this process is safe and comfortable. Give us a call today to see if you are a good candidate for Zoom!

Why do teeth discolor over time?

There are lots of reasons why teeth discolor over time. Whiteness in teeth can diminish as exposure to foods, wine, coffee, sodas, berries can stain and cause your teeth to change color. Teeth whitening can remove these stains and restore the brightness of your smile.

How does whitening gel work?

The active ingredient in bleaching is some form of peroxide. Peroxides help remove surface and deep surface stains and allow the white parts of the teeth to shine through again. Whitening that is done in a dental office tends to have faster results due to the increased concentration of peroxides and is usually aided by a light.

Zoom! whitening sessions can vary depending on many color shades a patient would like to change but most of our appointments last about an hour. We apply our whitening material  and application light for our patients and monitor their comfort during the whitening.

While our whitening process is meant to prevent as much discomfort as possible, your teeth might still be sensitive for a few days after whitening. If you experience any discomfort for a longer period please contact us.

When would I not be a good candidate for Zoom!?

If you have a lot of dental restorations you might want to ask us how whitening might impact your smile. Peroxide whitens natural teeth but not restorative materials like veneers, crowns or fillings.

Gum recession can also be a problem for some patients and attempting to whiten can irritate the gums if they have other issues.

Bleaching has been clinically studied on millions of patients and is considered very safe for use.

The best way to know if you are a good candidate for whitening is to come in and see us for an exam!

How can I keep my smile nice and bright?

Avoid eating and drinking lots of wine, coffee, sports drinks, energy drinks, tea and dark berries. Drinking lots of water while eating or drinking any staining foods can also help minimize the impact of staining on your teeth. Of course, refraining or limiting smoking will also help keep your teeth as white as possible.

Periodic whitening will be required as teeth will naturally darken a little bit over time. We can help set you up with a whitening trays and gel that can be used at home that will keep your teeth as white as you like!
